COOKING INSTRUCTIONS FROM FREEZER TO THE BBQ

Our cooking instructions may just be for the oven, but with a little TLC you can cook this Italian Classic on the barbecue!

A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

Barbecuing your lasagna will give it that delicious, smoky flavour you can only get on the grill, BUT there are a few things you need to keep in mind before adding the sizzle to your lasagna.

  • These instructions were created for barbecues with 4 burners, as the lasagna should be cooked on indirect heat to avoid burning the bottom too much. Use your best BBQ'ing judgement when following these instructions. If you have a 3-burner BBQ, or a 6-burner BBQ, always place the lasagna under indirect heat and use the side burners at all times to ensure heat level is maintained.

  • Be aware that BBQ temperatures can increase if left unattended. Monitor the temperature frequently to ensure that the recommended temperature is maintained. Lift the lid when you notice the temperature exceeding the recommended heat level.

  • BBQ temperatures can fluctuate in different settings; so that means if you are cooking other foods with your lasagna that require the BBQ lid to be open frequently, your lasagna will take longer to cook.

All barbecues are not built exactly the same, so Mama can't guarantee that these instructions will cook your lasagna to perfection. The following instructions are guidelines only; only you know how your BBQ functions at it's best.

NOTE: These instructions are for our large 2.72kg lasagnas.

BARBECUING A FROZEN LASAGNA:

1. Turn on all BBQ burners and preheat to 400°F (204°C).

2. Remove plastic wrap and label. Do not remove lid.

3. Turn off the middle burners. Place the frozen lasagna on the centre of the grill, between the side burners. Let cook for 100 minutes, maintaining the BBQ temperature at 400°F (204°C).

4. If a crispy lasagna is what you want to achieve, carefully remove the lid of the lasagna completely and cook for an additional 15 minutes.

If a saucy lasagna is preferred, then leave the lid on for the remaining 15 minutes.

5. Carefully remove from BBQ and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

6. Cut, Serve, and Enjoy!

TOTAL TIME FROM BBQ TO TABLE: Approximately 2 hours

BARBECUING A THAWED LASAGNA:

1. Take your frozen lasagna out of the freezer and put it into your refrigerator with a tray underneath it; a baking sheet will work nicely.

Do this step a day before you plan on cooking the lasagna (24 hours prior to barbecuing).

2. Turn on all BBQ burners and pre-heat to 375°F (191°C).

3. Take the lasagna out of the fridge carefully; there may be a small pool of water that accumulated in the baking sheet. Remove plastic wrap and label, then carefully remove the aluminum lid and then place back onto the lasagna with only the corners pressed back into place, allowing for ventilation from the sides.

4. Turn off the middle burners. Place the lasagna on the centre of the grill, between the side burners, without the baking sheet. Let cook for 50 minutes, maintaining the BBQ temperature between 375°F and 400°F.

5. If a crispy lasagna is what you want to achieve, carefully remove the lid of the lasagna completely and cook for an additional 15 minutes.

If a saucy lasagna is preferred, then leave the lid on for the remaining 15 minutes.

6. Carefully remove from BBQ and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

7. Cut, Serve, and Enjoy!

TOTAL TIME FROM BBQ TO TABLE: Approximately 1 hour
